Oh shit... I totally forgot to revisit this... St thomas, St john, and St croix are all great... I've been to all and stayed extended periods of time at all three... There is no need for concern regarding crime etc., British islands are typically very safe... St Thomas is a major cruise port, so lots of tourist at various times of the day... St John is not as populated with tourist...
If you r a gold jewelry person, the VI is the place to shop for that.. It has been sometime since I was there (2001) so I can't recall any specific places to visit... I like to hire a local cabbie and have them drive me aroud for the day... Its cheaper and they show you all the touristy spots as well as places the locals frequent...
I never felt unsafe there!
Go for St Thomas and dependant on your finances venture out to St John and St Croix for a day trip...
I'm still weighing my options & my partner in crime has misplaced her passport. If I can find what I want in a vacation we can stay in the US...if not, she's SOL! LOL
