What's Your Nickname

What is your nickname, past or present?  What are some nicknames that other people have given you over the years.  Come on & share them, whether you like 'em or not.

My "real" nickname is Pumpkin {or as we said in the hood 'Punkin'}, given to me by my grandfather  the day I was born.  Papa was horrible with birth names so he gave everyone a nickname he could remember.  Most times he was the only person who used that name, but everyone knew who he was speaking to.

A few years ago I was picking my son up from school and someone kept calling for Punkin.   I haven't been called that since my mother died & it never dawned on me to see who it was.  Lo & behold, it was a lady who had known me since I was a baby.  She walked up & said, "Punkin!  Didn't you hear me calling you?!"  "Ms. Janice, I haven't answered to that name in ages."  She then said, "I know you're grown & all, but you are still Punkin, plus I couldn't remember your real name!"  I guess to some, I'll always be Punkin.

Other names I've been given, besides the obvious plays on my name are: Juicy (because of my thighs) (RIP Marquan);  Fluffy (because of my hair) (my sister); Boss Bitch (ex boyfriend); Bi-State Legs (because of my long legs) (ex boyfriend); Queen B (my nephew) and recently given to me by a male friend - Timber (again, my legs) & Needles (my sharp elbows).

  14. Could be worse. My beloved Aunt Melinda was nicknamed "Petey" as a kid because she loved the dog from the Little Rascals. There are probably folks that don't know her REAL name because we ALL call her "Pete"

  15. Glama is my nickname that I've been called for more than 10 years given to me by one of my aunts when I used to do fashion & talent shows. I used to be heavy into fashion, style, makeup, shows, singing, etc. and she used to comment that I was a "glamorous amazon or glamazon" and hence it became my stage name (fashion shows, pageants, singing & Ricki Lake), nickname and online handle. Some of my exes' nicknames include: Brown, Punkin', Lady, G-Phi-G...lol, Big Sexy, and 'Wanna.

I'm not even going there on the family nicknames.. That shit was embarrassing.

  21. LOL! Only a friend can get away with that one!

  22. Lawd.....LOL No "Willie" on the end? HAHA

  23. My daddy's name is Frankie (no middle name) but his family called him "Pete". *shrugs*

One of my alternate online monikers is "petesbabygirl".

  24. 1st you need to stay outta grown folks business. 2nd, I change the settings & that cause them to resurface. When I figured that out I didn't do them all at once.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I had a male friend once who used to call me by my middle name if he thought I wasn't being honest with him. Lusindah is a derivative/combination of my middle name and his real name.

    ReplyDelete
  26. actually he calls me that because of the swimsuit story. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  27. I never had a nickname until some years ago. For some reason I was given the name Appollonia (Naughtyville). It stuck since......lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have had entirely too many nicknames. My primary nickname is T, because, well, my name starts with T LOL. That and the fact that T is the greatest letter in the alphabet, so it only fit lol. Within my circles I have a couple, my boy Ran calls me Monster(the origin isn't as interesting as you would think LOL), my other boys call me Apocalypse(after the X-Men character), my brother calls me Heavy T(like Heavy D*blank stare*, he thinks it's clever lol), My ex used to call me Booty(have no idea why. Needless to say that got annoying really fast though, especially when she tried to call me that in front of people lol).

In college I had Guru, PIM(Poetry in Motion, there is a story, that's all I will say LOL), Flash Gordon(I went through a flag pole phase, it was a bad time in my life), T-40(like E-40, given for the same reason lol). In high school there was TLE(given to me by one of my boys while drunk), The Great Outdoors(given to me because of my habit of partaking in certain activities outside), Survival(given to me by my dumb assed cousin who couldn't pronounce my middle name). My first nickname though was given to me by my Grandmother. She called me Kojak(think about it lol)

  29. I went to college with this guy whose name was Sheldon Marshalle(sp?) Brown, but everyone called him Jeff LOL. We were like where the hell did Jeff come from? Apparently his mother wanted him to be named Sheldon, his father wanted him to be named Jeff. His mother won, but his dad decided that he was going to call him Jeff anyway, and soon everybody else(except Mama of course lol) calls him Jeff.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Can I tell her why? Can I.... Can I? lmao

    ReplyDelete
  32. *singing Doowhutchyalike*

"Homegirls, for once, forget you got class,
See a guy you like: just grab 'im in the biscuits!
    And doowutchyalike."

I forgot, my grandfather used to call me Muffet, as in Lil Miss...

  46. Interesting! Everyone knows my Pastor's wife as Mz. Pete. Sometimes, when he is talking about her, he will just call her Pete (because mostly everyone is familiar with her as "Mz. Pete"), but I guess from time to time he remembers he has visitors and will tell folks "Oh! Pete is my wife! That's her nickname; I ain't talking about no dude!" and then he sort of does this George Jefferson strut like "Yall know better then that! I don't play like that!" Her real name is Kennetha, so I am sure she has had other boyish nicknames when she was younger.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Dang, are we still talking about nicknames?

    **insert look of confusion **

My grandfather called me "Jumpin Jack" because I used to jump rope all the time! I miss him!
My only other unique nickname was "Sweets" given by a Jr. high school boyfriend. Becaus I'm sweet, of course!

    ReplyDelete
  48. My name is DeShanna, but I have been called:

    Tutu
    Shaun
    Dee
    Dee Dee
    Poo
Platinum (he, he, he ..sorry, having flashbacks ...)
    Shanna-Shanna
    Shanna Wanna
    Shanny Shan Shan

I have always prefered to be called by my given name, and I fought nicknames long and hard. But after a while, I couldn't fight it anymore because black folks just HAVE to give folks nicknames. So I kinda deal with it as long as its not too stupid. And God forbid if you mispronounce my given name ...its like nails on a chalkboard for me.
