Federally-funded health centers care for you, even if you have no health insurance. You pay what you can afford, based on your income.
Many moons ago, before being blessed with full-time employment & benefits, I used a health center & had no issue. All you need to do is provide proof of income...or the lack thereof & you can see health professionals & get prescriptions at a price that won't have you skipping meals.
Thanks! I really needed this info.
ReplyDeletethanks for the info, although I don't know of any here :(
ReplyDeletealthough the issue for me is I DO have health insurance but I still can't afford to go to the dr. or get sick.
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you, health centers aren't a bad alternative to private docs when you have no choice. You might not see the same person all the time, but the care is quality & you can't beat the price.
ReplyDeleteI certainly understand. I thank GOD I'm fairly healthy & haven't been hospitalized in 20 years (and the last time was to give birth). The deductible alone will kill you.
ReplyDeleteI had to go to the ER in July and stuck with a $900 bill AFTER insurance paid their part!
ReplyDeleteNot for nothing I am in the boat I am in because of a health center and because of it I will NEVER go into another clinic again. If I gotta marry one of my girlfriends for her good health insurance *snicker* I will do that ish!! Dealing with a private dr means an 8:30 am appt is at 8:30. You don't have 100 people with the same appt time. In 99 I kept telling that fool about symptoms and he told me it was nothing......they were symptoms of ESRD (end stage renal disease) I have a thing against those clinics!
ReplyDeleteWow! I definitely see why you'd be leery of them, but if you have no other options, what can you do?
ReplyDeleteThese days, a lot of medical plans are covering "domestic partners" - hetero & homo alike, but a lot of employers (like mine) ain't even trying to hear it. IMHO, it's easier to get married than it is to prove you've been shacking for 7 years.
