Has Facebook Replaced Multiply?

Rating:★★
Category:Other
I originally joined FB to spy on the boy, my God-daughter & other youngins I care about. Then I noticed a lot a people I already some kind of relationship on there. I'm also connected to several of you in both spots & notice much more activity on FB. I'm still learning FB but will stay in Plyville, if only for the blogging.

I created a FB rule for myself - only connect to current connections ('Ply, 360, Myspace), friends, family & classmates. I'm not in the business of collecting friends. I can't keep up with the people in my house, let alone 889 web-connects. LOL

Now back to the original question - Has Facebook replaced Multiply? What say you?

  1. I think it has. Although I'm only connected to one 'Plyer over on the other side.

Hit me up to add me Mo. I find myself updating my FB status via my phone, b/c it's blocked here at work. I stay on Multiply, b/c the job doesn't have it blocked..........(yet).....lol

  3. I also know those of us who liked he 360 blast like the status change feature on FB.

  4. I'm actually over there. It's not bad. It's just like a big ass 360 blast.

  5. I'm with you, Mo. No twittering, tweeting, twitting.....whatever the hell the past tense is! LOL

  6. I like facebook, but I don't think it's replacing 'ply, I think they complement each other. It would be great if they joined forces, call themselves Face 'Ply or Multi Book or something hehe

  7. I have twitter, but it's for a specific purpose, for announcements about my website for those who want to know about new docs I've transcribed and put up. I don't use it for anything else.

  8. I refuse to go to Twitter or FB. This is the last place i'm going besides my MySpace. I just don't desire getting further acquainted with people from my past and well if you're my family you already know how to get in contact with me. I told my best-friend that there is a reason i don't still have the same friends i had in grade school and let that be the reason.

  10. multiply is incredibly weak compared to facebook...

    twitter is for maniacs...

i like facebook.. you dont have to make many "new" friends and for someone like me, who has a huge amount of friends offline, its coo theres a site accepted by all..

i think mulltiply is for more emotionally challenged people who need barriers between their everyday life and the fake they portray on the web...

  11. I love your answer...

And I'm one of those twitter maniacs... LMAO

  12. It's hard to say. I'm on both 'ply and facebook (pm me your info for facebook....lol) and I like both. I do know however, that 'ply has replaced 360 cuz I don't hardly go on there anymore. Last time I went it was like a ghost town.

  13. I was never all that into Multiply anyway, but I like Facebook (more so than twitter) because of the status updates. They are fun to me :)

  14. I concur. Especially since I find blogging to be a chore these days. LOL

  15. Hell, my status updates ARE my blogs! LOL That's about all I have time for these days.

  16. I don't have the time or energy for any more social networing, so no Facebook for me. I love Amore's reply and I agree with her.

  17. LOL! sorry!

I do get what you were saying though. For me I use facebook mostly for contact with coworkers and networking for businessy type of stuff, so you don't HAVE to connect with folks from your past.

  18. but ply was able to replace 360 b/c it's pretty much the same thing, blogs, reviews, photos, music, links, etc. the only thing I can think of that 360 and 'ply don't share ate the blasts on 360. But I think that is why fb won't replace 'ply b/c so much of us use this site for the blogging and there is really no blog on fb (that I'm aware of). they do have the "notes", but it's not the same.

  19. Yeah, I love the status updates on FB, I don't use them much myself, but enjoy reading others and I missed having that when I switched from 360 to 'ply

  20. I tend to disagree. Speaking for myself & those I know personally, there's nothing fake about it. The people I met here first and then in person afterwards were just as I suspected....the same. I'm sure they'd say the same about me (or they better..LOL). Now those who lurk in the shadows & just stalk other people's pages, I can't speak for.

  21. It's way too much, and I wonder how people with small children and families manage all this madness after business hours? I still prefer 'ply however I have noticed a najor slow down, folks aren't nearly as active as they once were.

Fb is cool, but in all honesty I find that I can't put up the status messages I'd like to put up because I'd hate to disrespect someone, here if you don't like it, you don't read it, on fb its kinda in your face. They have a ton worthless applications that most are obessed with that drive me crazy! Lol. But, on a good note, its been cool running into folks from elementary school, high school etc...

All that to say that I hope folks aren't choosing one over the other 'ply serves a purpose, jus like fb serves a purpose.

  22. I think I am too old for FB. The internet is boring the hell out of my lately, cept for some of my Ply people who dig up pictures that shouldn't ever see the light of day (QQ'n Glenda, Deshanna), you talking bout Grandmama or the few people who interest me nowadays I would not bother. I never thought I'd get tired of the Net but I do.

  23. And this right here is what makes me believe it's a souped up MySpace.

I do agree that Multiply does serve a purpose just like all the other social sites and everyone uses them to the level which the see fit.

  24. I know exactly what you mean Moni and i also agree. Not to mention it doesn't take just "ply" or other sites to allow you to portray a life that isn't your own. Heck the folks i knew from back in the day don't know me or anything about me so i can be whom ever i choose to be and that rings true with many folks (although i choose to be myself). FB doesn't mean that the lies have stopped just means they have to be more creative.

Blog writing is very therapeutic and serves as a purpose for those that do it and continue to do it.

  25. I am hardly on either but I do enjoy Multiply better. I like the blogging and the contacts. Somehow Multiply seems more intimate. I like Facebook for connecting to my long lost childhood friends/crushes etc.

  26. I love FB...I have been able to connect and learn so much about my relatives that I usually only see every 5-10 years. I hate spending the first 2-3 hours huddled up trying to figure out who is who or getting several years of updates in one day.

Also, my college campus was closed the year after I graduated and FB has served as a gathering place, since the school treats us like stepchildren. I even found my friend that moved back to Puerto Rico!

I'm on Twitter, but I'm thinking about closing that account, I haven't been real, real impressed, but it's interesting to see what kinda stuff celebrities twit about. (Erykah Badu is on dat shit for real! LOL)

  27. Ain't that the truth?!?! I deny them all. I'm just on there for the fun & networking.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You are not. I just helped a 55 year old director at my agency set up her page. She's wanting to connect with old friends & classmates.

I found FB to be a good way to stay connected to my out of town family & people/classmates from the past.
