Precious

Rating:★★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Drama
..."Precious" made me laugh & cry...evoking feelings of anger, disgust & empathy. I won't say much more as not to spoil it, but it was definitely worth the $$.

Now I gotta read the book.

The "B-Sides" - Way Back Wednesday

I get my appreciation for good R&B and Soul music from my mother.  We never had more than two (2) TVs in the house but there's was a radio of some sort in every room...including the bathroom.

Our local music store was called SoundTown & in walking distance from our house.  I remember when "When Doves Cry" was released & she sent me to buy the 45.  Imagine the shock when I saw a purple record!  I couldn't wait to play it...like it was gonna sound differently or something. LOL

She had Peaches crates & milk crates of records on top of records.  She would always play her new purchases from beginning to end - A-Side & B-Side.  There was a lot of good music on the B-sides that never got radio play & unless you (or someone you knew) owned & played the 45 or LP in it's entirety, you would never hear these songs.

I posted my all time fav B-side song yesterday - If I Could Feel That Old Feeling Again by Anita Ward.

What are some of your favorite, never got radio play B-side songs?

Anita Ward - If I Could Feel That Old Feeling Again

This is the B-side of the Ring My Bell 45. I have searched high & low for this one & finally found it on iTunes, now youtube. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG. It never got radio play but mama always played both side of her 45s & LPs so I heard it all. :)

Third World - Now That We Found Love

This was (if I recall correctly) my 1st exposure to reggae & I love this song!

If you had $1 for every sex partner you've had, what could you buy?

My Very Biased Opinion on an HR/Insurance Matter

Here's the situation - my main responsibility at work is benefits administration for the staff.  I also serve as the same for a few clients.  One client has a domestic partner rider on their health plans.  The plan covers the partner & dependent children of said partner.

Even tho, I can't do anything about it, I have a problem with this.

We all know (whether anyone publicly admits or not) the domestic partner provision came about to recognize long-term homosexual couples who cannot, by law, be married.   This I do understand & don't have a problem with.  I do, however, have a problem with people who can, by law, be married, but refuse do so (for whatever reason) but want to partake in the privileges of lawful heterosexual union, such as employer benefits.

Don't be fooled into thinking the provision will allow you to show up in HR and add your long-term partner to your benefits simply by signing on the dotted line.  It's a little more difficult than that.

Considering you have to prove your long-term partnership - proof of co-habitation (shacking up) for at least 5 years, joint financial responsibilities (i.e., bank accounts, debts, property ownership, etc.), would it not be easier head down to the courthouse & get married?!

Again, the same sex couples have no other option so I have no problem assisting them, but the hetero couples are pissing me off.   Just get married already, damn.

Again, I'm biased, so I might be in the minority.

Apply for Clean House Show

Even tho I'm a clutter-bug (my granny would keel over if she could see my basement & closets), I'm not nasty, but would love nothing more than to have the crew help me sell the crap I *think* I can't part with & let Mark give my little abode a makeover.

Be sure to read the rules & regs - like no outstanding warrants, no restraining orders, etc.

No Health Insurance?

http://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/
Federally-funded health centers care for you, even if you have no health insurance. You pay what you can afford, based on your income.

Many moons ago, before being blessed with full-time employment & benefits, I used a health center & had no issue. All you need to do is provide proof of income...or the lack thereof & you can see health professionals & get prescriptions at a price that won't have you skipping meals.

I *HATE* Phone Tag!

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
Phone tag is in the top 10 list of things that tap-dance on my nerves!

I absolutely loathe, "Call me."; "I have a question for you, call me back."; "Hey, I need a favor, call me." So forth & so on.

WTF???? Why can't you just say what you want/need and if (and that's a big ass if) I decide to call you back, I can more than likely have an answer for you.

Now I understand there are times when this can't be avoided or when leaving a detailed message might not be a good idea, but 9 times out of 10 it would eliminate the damn phone tag game.

Unless I can tell (thru your voice) there are tears in your eyes, chances are I won't be calling you back.

I'm done!
