He does it all: sings, writes, produces, plays instruments, dances (no one can jump & do splits in 4 inch heels like he can) & acts. Well, his acting could use a little work, but how could you not love Purple Rain & Under the Cherry Moon?
I remember hearing "Lil Red Corvette" and trying to figure out what the hell he was talking about....."pocket full of horses"???. Of course it all went over my head. Hey, I was only 10. Fast forward to 1984's Darling Nikki - I actually learned a few things from this record. I thought Nikki was nasty slut for masturbating in the hotel lobby. What did you expect from a 12 year-old know-it-all?
If I had to pick an all-time favorite, it would have to be "Adore". That is seriously, one sexxxy song! Followed by I Hate U, Kiss, D.M.S.R. (Dance, Music, Sex, Romance), Scandalous, International Lover, Baby I'm a Star (I gotta get up & shake my groove thang when I hear that one) & Let's Go Crazy. Even Muda liked Pop Life.
Do you remember the 1999 calender? Caliente!!
When "When Doves Cry" was released on 45, my mama sent me to SoundTown (a local Wrecka Stow..only real fans will get this) to it. Imagine my awe when I pulled it out to check for scratches & that joker was actually purple! A purple record!! Who'da thunk it? *lol*
I paid $75 whole, hard-earned dollars to see the Musicology concert & of course it was worth it.
I just wanted to show my appreciation for a true entertainer who doesn't need a lot of 4-letter words & countless video hoes to sell records. Although, his music does bring a few 4-letter words to mind....
PS....I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me it goes astray.
Im right there with you. I cant blog about it because it would be an endless blog, so Im just showing love on the pages of fellow Prince friends.
ReplyDeleteI went to the musicology tour TWICE. At MSG, I had 4 tickets, one in each corner since he did it in the round. You should have seen me running around the garden every time he switched focus lol. A mess I was. Then I saw him a few days later in Jersey. My first prince conert was in california during the Rave tour. I spent serious duckets to be in the purple circle and i swear he looked RIGHT at me!!
3121 was better than I expected but Planet Earth wasnt all that great. A few good tracks but that was it. i aint made though, he is still better than 95% of the people out there these days
ROFL...
ReplyDeleteMy aunt first introduced me to Prince when she was in high school and I was like 7 or 8. She played the the Prince album on my Granny's big wooden floor model wall to wall stereo system. She would play "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" over and over and we would dance until we were dizzy. Then we would lip sync "Still Waiting" into hairbrushes. Since then, I have loved me some Prince Roger Nelson and all his purple weirdness. Happy Birthday Prince!
WOW... After reading this you are a real fan.... and if I see one mo damn acronym I might just hit you... lol But he is a great... I will admittedly say that I've never been a die hard fan.. I mean if a song came on I was all over it, but I've never bout one of his albums, I've never seen him in concert.... But I shole do loves me some Purple Rain... I can appreciate him for his music and I will agree it makes you wanna say some 4 letter words, but Im a late bloomer when it comes to great artist like this... Hell, I just recently within the last couple years started loving Marvin Gaye.... So that tells ya Im a lil bit behind in my fanaticism over singers... lol
ReplyDeleteHappy birday Prince....
and ummmm Kimberly... you wrong for that pic... looking like his mug shot being taken inside the lockup bathroom... lol
I'd like to know what about... lol
ReplyDeleteNow that's a loyal fan!!
ReplyDeleteThat pic ain't 1/2 as bad as this one: http://msmo72.multiply.com/photos/album/5/Just_Some_Random_Stuff#10
ReplyDelete...but I still love him!
Obviously, you are NOT a true Prince fan. HAHA! The real ones know.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right... but i guess one or 2 pics cant deminish his good talent...
ReplyDeleteAre yall checking out VH1Soul? its Prince weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteYou forgot Grafitti Bridge. I love me some Prince just not this much. I have never been to a concert before but I do love his music and when i was younger i even bought a book to learn all about him. Ok and excuse me but was everyone looking or something awesome to happen when the year 1999 rolled around or was it just me...*giggles. (hmmm). I think I may check out that Prince weekend on VH1 though cause i do love his music and i want to see a couple of old videos. He still never made one to Darling NIkki but i forgive him (that was my most fav). I still can't believe that man is 50 and he still looks so good to me with his lil butt.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Prince Roger Nelson, Prince, The Artist and so on and so forth.
michael jackson and madonna are also turning 50 and all three are from the midwest. random factoid
ReplyDeleteI could do without his protege videos....Vanity, Appolonia and this other chick.....Sheena Easton's Sugar Walls was aight(I knew Prince wrote that ish the minute I heard it)Now that he is born again he wears a whole lot more clothing lol.
ReplyDeleteMo, I just noticed you said "wrecka stow" LMAOOOO I just fell the hell out at that, my granny used to say that LMAO!
ReplyDeleteI miss the wrecka stows....I used to save up my momma's change and buy records every damn week (she never got the silver back, only the paper)I used to go to Titus Oaks up on Flatbush avenue and spend up her money on vinyl.
I went to this spot in Williamsburg and saw a wrecka stow and made the joke to my husband "if ya wanna buy a same cooke album, wehre do ya go?"
ReplyDeleteAhhh kristin scott thomas probably doesnt even acknowledge that movie
Intentionally! LOL That movie was just dumb....good music, dumb movie.
ReplyDeleteAss out jeans for er'body! As a fan I am mad you missed one of his baddest cuts. I will give you 3 hints to see if you remember it...1 It never made an album but was released as a single. 2 It was released as a B side of Erotic City on a purple 45. 3 Last but not least, it was played in a Prince movie (tn be named in the BONUS question). Bonus It played during the love scene. Answer....GOD.
