Words to Live By

These are a few things, I've heard over the years and they tend to stick with me.

"The company you keep determines the trouble you meet." - Muda

"Girl, you aren't the only one in the world to go thru heartbreak.  Where do you think all those sad ass songs come from?" - Mama

"Find 'em stupid, keep 'em stupid." - Uncle (...you have to know my uncle)

"Y'all gon' miss me when I'm gone." - Papa

Feel free to share yours.

  1. It sounds bad but my Mama used to tell me regarding friends, "Don't tell anybody EVERYTHING and don't tell some people NOTHING". When I was younger I thought that was harsh advice but as I get older I know she knew what she was talking about. And my favorite from my daddy was about me caring what other people think (which I am still working on). He said "If they ain't feeding you and they ain't paying your bills SHIT ON THEM". LOL He's a quiet man but he gets his point across.

Oh, my mama also told me to "Never tell your friends what you do with your man and what your man does for you. They may wanna test him." I love my girls but through life experience all I can say is AMEN.

  3. Don't never love something so much, you can't leave it- mama ( that saying really pretained to men)

  4. My grandmother used to tell me "Don't never take care of a man -- you let him take care of you (and anyone else who might come along).... you can do BAD by YOURSELF"

From my grandfather "Doesn't matter whether they're black, white, red, yellow or blue with pink polka dots, all they want to do is get it wet."

From my Aunt Terry: "Life is about choices" (and I have come to add that choices themselves are neither good nor bad in and of themselves, it is whether or not one is prepared to deal with the consequences those choices may bring)
