Are the 5 inch clear heels ok? They are clear so they go with everything.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to me...lol Have a wonderful & blessed week Queen!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if most people know this (especially young black women) but a big colorful necklace around your neck is not appropriate for job interviews or training. I see them come all the time with those cute necklaces on , but they just aren't right for a job interview. Sure it matches the blouse you have on, but no one should have on a huge pink necklace at a job interview.
ReplyDeleteI remember for a long time this wasn't the case. That was the main reason that I didn't grow my hair earlier, because everybody was telling me that people would hire me.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly wasn't, but things have changed. Remember that episode of Living Single where ole boy told Kyle his hair was holding him back? It really wasn't & ole was just hating.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ Shancole, so I should keep my pole gear in the closet for my man only...
ReplyDeleteI work in public education in administration and the attire is very casual. Upper level admin/management tend to dress up --not quite corporate but very presentable. The lower strata tends to dress downward in business casual wear, and jeans are even acceptable. I prefer to save the jeans for Fridays only, and since I'm an executive assistant I try to look and dress the part Monday thru Thursday, even though there are those with the same title who flow with the casual looks. And while I wouldn't wear my clear heels to the office, I've been known to wear four inch stilettos, but usually I pair them with a long skirt or a pant suit. I've gotten the stares and comments (mainly from women...the men happen to LOVE them) but they do it just to irritate me. Some of those women have confessed that they are envious of me because I can wear such high heels and they can't!
A heel is not a heel unless it is 4 inches or more. To top that off if you can wear it to the office for six or more hours I give you a standing ovation. Now knowing me, my knees would start to buckle about the fourth hour. I was at work the other day and one woman had on her mega heels and she was doing that walk where it looks like the whole body is leaned forward for balance, I got a giggle off of that. I can do the high ones as well, but I can't seem to balance those skinny heels that look like a toothpick.

Usually when I go to an interview I try to dress simple, usually in a suit or something non descript. I try not to wear heels (sometimes I fail) because my height has me towering over everyone (kinda difficult for eye contact). Its amazing how much goes into consideration in the process. I think that hygeine is on that lil checklist as well. I think that its really good that you posted this because its amazing how many people really don't know what things are inappropriate.
If you're interviewing at Merril Lynch, I say no. If you're interviewing at The Nasty Kitty & Co., go for it!
ReplyDeleteTrue, true! I can't front. I cannot get with the Thelma Harper necklaces, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteBig girls in High Heels stand up!! I've worn some 4 inchers to the office too, but I leave my clear, stripper shoes at the crib. A lot women around here always compliment me on my shoes, but I know some of them are wondering how my fat ass can walk in 4 inch heels. Heffas! LOL
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of young sisters come in here all wrong. I will pull them to the side & counsel them. Most have been appreciative.
ReplyDeleteMo ~ I guess they think we should be rocking those croc shoes or something! I know those shoes are supposed to be like walking on air but they are too fugly for my feets. You won't catch me dead in those bastards.
ReplyDeleteStormy ~ I made it 6 hours in my guess boots with the toothpick heels. Suprisingly they are the most comfy shoes I got. Now when I'm down to earth wearing my uggz is when my feet hurt the most. Flat shoes are very uncomfortable to me. My feet feel their best when supported by a high heel. Can't help it!
I got me some cheap croc from Payless. I wear them in the house & the yard.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, shoes with a heel or wedge are better for your posture than flats.
I just don't get how this stuff is not common sense...
ReplyDeleteBut I guess for some who may have never been taught what is "proper" in the work place...they'd never know unless someone called them on it. To me, it just takes half a brain to know not to show up with your boobs & ass hanging out, and make-up done like you are in a porn flick or music video...
Mo, you should teach a workshop on this stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the offenders are Gen Yers. Most Gen Xers (like us) get it. I've had to pull a few sisters to the side & drop some knowledge on them about how to dress for an interview.
ReplyDeleteActually I do. We have a client who runs a shelter w/ a job readiness program. I, along with people from several industries, show up to help them with stuff like this.
