Personally, I enjoy nothing more than the peace & quiet of my home. On the other hand, also enjoy(ed) the freedom of coming & going as I damn well pleased. Some weekends I never left my house; others, I was constantly on the move. It was my choice. It was nothing for me & my BFF to get up & go to Wal-Mart (way out west) at 2:00 am or to go from one edge of town to the other, just shopping & bumming around whenever the mood hit.
I've never been one to plan running errands & such. I simply did it as the need arose. Not now! If I need groceries, I carefully consider which store, other places are in the area I can hit, etc. Just how many birds can I kill with this one stone?
We have a pretty decent public transporation system here, but it's not convenient for our office location. I still can't complain because my drive (I was threatened with bodily harm the last time I referred to it as a commute) is only 2.3 miles one-way, from home to office.
I guess the upside to this is that by not making as many trips and keeping my ass at home more often than not, I'm contributing to make our earth a greener place to be.
As usual, in closing, here's my question: How has the cost of fuel changed your lifetstyle or other habits?
Did I just see you complain about a 2.3 mile drive to work? My office is now in the next county. I drive 53 miles each way. At $4.03 a gallon, that sucks. That's why I work from home as many days as I can.
ReplyDeleteI love to drive actually, but I'm having to curb it due to the gas prices. My cousin is having a cook out, but to drive to her is over 80 miles going and returning home. I'm not going. I have friends in Alpharetta I may not see for a while. I'm not eating out as much, good for my waistline I suppose. LOL
ReplyDeleteNope, I didn't complain! :o) I ain't even trying to be burned at the stake 'round here! LOL
ReplyDeleteYOU BETTER TELLTHE TRUTH AND SHAME THE DEVIL!!!!!
ReplyDelete2.3 miles *sucking teef*
Seriously though, I have to say that it's only curbed my driving SLIGHTLY. Since I moved to Baltimore, I try to plan stops on my route home. I only have two weekends a month to myself so I tend to spend them ripping and running, but it's generally no further than Wal-Mart or Costco.
I miss the days when me and the girls would pony up and just go gallivanting all over the free world. Now we're all driving these big ass trucks and nobody's moving! LMAO
So far, nothing has changed for me. I still do what I want and go where I want. And I still eat out. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteWe are still hovering between $3.97 and $3.99 *eyeroll*....just across the river (Illinois), they've passed the $4.00 mark.
ReplyDeleteI filled up Boosty (that's what I call her) yesterday (after my low fuel warning light came on) to the tune of $45.98. That gave me a headache.
ReplyDelete*refuses to grab Mo's booty due to that comment*
ReplyDeleteonly change cost of fuel has made for me (since I can't drive) is the cost of transportation is 50 cents higher each way ($2 a trip, so on a workday, $4 if I don't have any dr. appts.). I really don't complain about that, I feel blessed I'm not paying more than that. And actually, as a state employee, I could ride the bus for free, but this transportation service is a LOT more convenient.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely hate driving unless I need to clear my head, then I can drive around forever...but with high gas prices, I dont do that too often
ReplyDeleteOur public transportation system here is horrible and it would take me transferring to at least two buses to get to work and that is not even counting to pick up the kids
I hardly ever fill up till Blackjack's light comes on. The damn pump I went to the other night had a cut-off of $75. It was ALMOST full when I was done. Lather, rinse, repeat every two and a half days.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm hovering around $39-$41 per tank. I get about 300 miles on a tank and fill up once a week. I love my Toyota Matrix (and it's not a hybrid!)
ReplyDeleteAint really changed much yet... Cuz my crazy ass still riding like the gas is $1.50... Last weekend (before last) I filled up on Sunday afternoon with $47 (bottom grade).... fast forward to this weekend, I filled up on Sunday again with $53... At this rate Im doing almost 200 bucks a month and I know thats still less than what Some pay... But thats killing my pocket... Granted I did do more driving that first weekend because of the endless church services, but most of my driving comes from errands for other folks... If it were my choice (and I guess I should have a choice), I would go to work and home. Its not often that I get to be a passenger cuz Im always doing the driving... Its so bad, that when the dude picks me up, Im usually asleep in the passenger seat within minutes... He learned to stop complaining about that a long time ago... But I think with all the things I have coming up and just other bills in general... I will have to start being more proactive in not giving the fuel man all my money...
ReplyDeletethe worst I've heard is that people are now (or for a long time) purchasing gas with their credit cards (not bank cards)... And that to me is scary.. cuz its one thing to be paying high ass gas costs, but then having to pay interest on top of that... That aint cool at alll..
$4.39 in chicago... Im not sure what i'll be doing when it goes to 5 and higher...
ReplyDeleteI am SOOOOOO glad I don't work in Va anymore cause that would be some BULLSHIT right now lol. I take the subway to work and try to take the bus to the subway(but that doesn't always work out so sometimes I have to drive, but the subway is fairly close so that's cool). but still, I only drive if I HAVE to now
ReplyDeleteI drive a Chevy Malibu & get approx 220 miles per tank. I don't fill up once a week because I don't have a true commute...lucky me.
ReplyDeleteOne of my good friends drives an Expedition - $100+ to fill. Most of the pumps in our area are cutting off at $100. As of yesterday, I heard that some stations are no longer accepting credit cards (probably due to the merchant fees). Luckily, I haven't had to use my credit card at the pump & I hope to keep it that way.
my commute is the same as monnis.. and lucky me cause i drive a suburban.. asias school is close as well. though i have curbed my driving to oakland to party.. sadly.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen that yet in my journeys, but there ARE a few stations who offer you $.04 off per gallon if you pay with cash. That must be equivalent to what they get charged for processing a credit card. I use my debit card for gas, so I feel it's kinda unfair...but, oh well.
ReplyDeletehere they "HOLD" $75 on the credit card for 3 days.
ReplyDeleteOh Hell Nawww Bobby! LOL!!! You have GOT to be kidding me! Geesh!
ReplyDeleteI wish a MF would.
ReplyDeleteThey do that here IF you are using a debit card and press debit. Now if you press credit...it doesn't hold anything. I had them do that to me once. I plum SHOWED out. The manager explained to me how to proceed going forward, called my bank and had them release my funds!
ReplyDeleteMy boss gave us a $50 gas card yesterday. He said he had heard one of his constituents bitch about having to drive to work (instead of telework) and said if she was complaining...aint no telling what we were saying about him. He is sooo right. Because I MISS my teleworking schedule. I use to could telework from home two days a week before he bought us out last fall. Now its one day every other week!
ReplyDeleteyes... i was told that and didnt do it.. i then called the bank and they explained that to me. so i will definitly always say credit. and not all of them are doing it yet.
ReplyDeleteWe are being controlled by the Big Oil companies. Watch this video please.
ReplyDeleteShit, I take public transportation. Don't have this problem with gas....yet.
ReplyDeleteMy commute is only 15 miles one way which is not bad. But never in my life before now would I hesitate on filling my car up. I had never driven around almost on empty, but I do it now. So, I don't think I've stopped driving as much, but I HATE putting gas in my car. :-(
