I've Changed My Mind - I Do Want a Wedding!

Betty Wright said, "It's a womans preogative to change her mind."

Not that there are any prospects on the horizon, but still.  I have long given up on the whole Cinderella deal, but I haven't given up that my on true love is still out there, somewhere.

As I was watching The Best of Soul Train, The Whispers sang one of my favorite wedding songs - I'm Gonna Make You My Wife.  I want him (whomever he might be) to sing or lip-sync this tune {minus the verse about having babies} as I make my way down the aisle.  Damn a courthouse.  I want what I want.

I found the song set to this movie clip on youtube & even tho I never saw the movie, this got me all teary-eyed. (Maybe I'm PMSing or something.)

For those who did have a wedding, what song did you/your bride enter on?

For those like me, what song(s) have you decided upon or have to choose from?

Yeah, I'm in a sappy kinda mood today.  It beats the hell outta the bitchy one, so just roll with me.

  1. Girl, I was watching Soul Train today, too! I didn't know they sang that song! I remember if from the movie "Waiting to Exhale!"

I say all the time that I don't want a big wedding either, but who knows WHAT I will want if the right man came along! Shoot!

I haven't chosen a wedding song. My pastor will only allow gospel songs because people were choosing the WRONG SONG to sing in church. But who's to say my pastor will wed me? Not a done deal.

  2. My uncle is a performer and he sings at all the family weddings and such. He sang these two songs at my aunt's (his sister) wedding. It was beautiful. I think "One Hundred Ways" was a nice lil threat to my aunt's groom. LOL But he sang "You Are So Beautiful" while she walked down the aisle. He also did "At Last" by Etta James for my uncle's wedding a couple years ago. That was also beautiful.

As for my own wedding, I have no clue. Something beautiful and heartfelt, preferably chosen by my groom.

  5. Right. lol Neither is the remix of Let's Get Married by Jagged Edge (Yes, I did attend a wedding where they played the original version in the church.)

  6. My people, my people..*just smdh at my people*

What was the 1st dance to? Lemme guess, H-Town's Knocking Boots?

  7. Well, the bride walked down the aisle to Happily Ever After by Case. (Let's Get Married was their exit song). This was my very first ghettoish wedding. I didn't know how to react.

  8. **DEAD**

It's funny but when I'm asked to sing at weddings, folks always request The Lord's Prayer. One of my best friends sang at my first wedding and he did a wonderful job.

When my soulmate finds me, I would do the wedding thing again...but on a MUCH smaller scale than the first time.

The one song I know for sure I want played (not sung..the original is it) is "Ribbon in the Sky". For that very reason, my wedding will be an evening affair. (Oh so long for this night I prayed...)

  9. *adding Nae to my wedding vendors list*

I went to a wedding of a high school friend a few summers back. Her niece's mother was supposed to sing the Lord's Prayer & chickened out at the last minute. Another high school friend stepped up to the plate and butchered it. Negros were sniggling & giggling thru out her rendition. I didn't utter a word or crack a smile. It was kinda like the Showtime at the Apollo thing for me - if they are singing His praises you applaud, no matter how BAD they are.

  10. I know, right. It's that whole "make a joyful noise" thing. Might not be joyful to us, but they ARE singing to the Lord.

That said, it's hard to sit through a bad performance. Maybe it's that whole Perfectionist Virgo thang. Although I may not say anything, my gut is wrenching...LOL!

  11. I have always wanted an evening wedding. That is one of the few wedding fantasies I have had that has survived. Not like that "wearing white" one that is way past dead and buried.

  12. I always wanted an outside wedding, something like one on Martin or Forrest Gump and I want the song to be something from Clarence Carter...

    ReplyDelete
  13. just tell me where to come so i can get some cake... lol

  14. I always wanted an evening evening just like the Forrest Gump wedding with outside string lights and stuff. But I'on know bout coming down the aisle to "I Be Strokin".

  15. I haven't really thought about it, but I want my uncle to sing. He's got a beautiful voice and he sang Here and Now to my aunt when they got married.

I want something small. Family and a few friends, that's all. A big reception though.

  16. Sappy is good. I don't think that I want a wedding, I just want to walk down an isle with a white dress as someone sings "What make a man turn his back on God?" I'm sure that i'm one of the few people who actually knows this song ... I remember an old lady singing it in church when I was young and the whole verse has been stuck in my head since then. My sister and I from then on kidded that this would be both of our wedding songs.

...erm... I decided on a honeymoon song as well, but it's kinda a personal joke. Plus, I don't want you to think that i'm any more crazy than i've already appeared :)

  17. Mo, can I be your flower girl?

I think I would go to the courthouse, and then have a beautiful reception. I would love for someone with a beautiful voice to sing for our first dance, but I dont' know what song. I've really thought it out, haven't I? LOL

Wow...I have never seen the Sappy Mo.

  18. We didn't do a wedding...did the city hall thang. Always regretted it..but it is what it is. We were thinking of renewing the vows w/a ceremony & everything for our 10th this year. But I think we'll hold off until the 15th year instead.

Any-who, my friend's mom walked down the aisle to My Latest, Greatest Inspiration. It was lovely.

I've always wanted to have This Ring by Shalamar played at our reception. We Must Be in Love was a song I always thought was a nice tribute from the bride to the groom.

Anybody remember that song from Living Single when Synclaire & Obie got married? That's another good one...

    Lyrics:

My love for you has no boundaries
I give you my heart, I give you everything
    All I want is forever
You and I as one, you and I as one

    With you I feel inspired
    To love for a lifetime
    And I'm proud to say
    On my wedding day
    I do, I do

    So with this ring
    I commit to you
'Til death do us part, that you'll still have my heart
And I know I'll be good to you
I said "I do" to only you
For the rest of my life

My love for you grows endless
'Cause you bring out the best in me
For the rest of my life
    Gonna be your wife
And so I do, boy--take my hand

Oh girl, from the depths of my soul
From the bottom of my heart
I need to tell you that I
    Love you, I need you
I love you, I need you
    For all time

    So with this ring
    I commit to you
    'Til death do us part
That you'll still have my heart
And I know, I'll be good to you
I said "I do" to only you

The song performed by T.C. Carson and Queen Latifah is entitled "I Commit to You."
It was written for executive producer Yvette Lee Bowser by her husband, Kyle.
A longer version, performed by Christopher Gaddy and Pamela Bryant,
can be found on the Living Single soundtrack.

  21. Now, I do have to admit that "This Ring" is my fantasy proposal song. Always has been.

  22. at the first ceremony (ministers house - a yr before the actual wedding) I enterd to "we must be in love" by Pure Soul. at the actual wedding (myrtle beach) I was SUPPOSED to walk down the sand aisle to "Ribbon in the Sky" ( in lieu of a flower girl, there was to be a processional ribbion dancer...but she didn't make it.*sigh* that's a whole nother story) someone forgot to take the CD downstairs to the ceremony...and I ended up havin to walk to the wedding march *eyeroll & gag*

  23. Kels & Twin - The song is titled "This is for the Lover in You", not "This Ring" - you bootlegg, ghetto heffas! LOL

  29. Bump that. I like "This ring" better. lmao

  30. Apparently that was a song before my time....

  31. Well, its late in the day and I dont feel like reading all you damn chatty chicks comments... lmaooo Im just joking... But I was thinking, because I have kind of a high yoohoo drive we may have to end it with a little bit of Janet Jackson's "Anytime Anyplace", cuz it just may happen at anyplace and at anytime... lmao

I've kinda kept myself (well kinda) for that day that I could do this family thing the Biblical way: find a man, get engaged, have folks falling all over me to be in my wedding to wear a tacky taffeta dress, walk my beautiful self down to aisle to see Tim standing there waiting, hoping I dont trip and fall down the aisle and get that shit caught on video, then go on to have some great floor pounding yoohoo'ism and make like only one baby, cuz thats all I think my body can produce...(ouch, the thought of pain), and go on to raise a family and be happily ever after.... Well at 32 years old, still no hubby, no babies, not much of a commitment but yet Im still hopeful for what God has for me... I think... But I do, I seriously do wanna get married one of these days with a big wedding and you heffa's know its gone be PINKED out for real... And Im inviting all of yall... Im gone need Mo,, cuz I thinks she's good with planning and sticking to the plan and putting folks in their place when needed... Hell, I think she did that to me a few times... And Ummm, Im gone need Kels, cuz she one of Chi-towns Finest... (Lawd, I said I would never used that title, goodness...lol), and Im gone need Dee cuz she got the hook up on the butter,,, you know black folks love buttering them biscuits... and Um Im gone need Silky Sue cuz she gone be my seamstress... (THINK PINK Silky).. and ummm who else.... Im gone need Sunshine, cuz thats one dancing fool and Im gone need you to come and teach me how to dance... Aint nothing worse than a bride that cant dance... And I think Im gone need Ms Shana... cuz we like two peas in a bucket... so we say.... well anyway...lol Ummm Kels, since you close you think you could be responsible for the cooking? lol

Here's a few songs I really like... but not sure if they're wedding songs...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I might have to dance to this one...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hmmm, somone's been busy over here planning their nuptials in complete detail. LOL...

Kindred's a good choice by the way...

    ReplyDelete
  34. And that's me on the phone with the caterers...you don't want NUFFIN I cooked for the reception. I'd put a big ass bag o'cereal from sam's club along with some milk in one of those champagne fountains and call it a day! ...LOL

  35. *ahem* I was 12. I swear if anybody makes ONE old joke, I promise you'll be walking down the aisle picking up your teef along the way! HMPH!

  39. I had to come back and post this...It's absolutely lovely. A marriage proposal done very, VERY well.

    http://www.photosbyknight.com/gray/

A couple in GA got engaged and the guy went all out and is now being recognized all over the U.S. for the love he has for his now fiance.

When you watch this you will want to cry. This is one more reason for not settling for less.

Imagine.......... thinking you are attending your brother's birthday party, just to find out your boyfriend has reserved ten (10) rooms @ the Ritz Carlton...Upon entering each room a special letter is being read by someone special (in your circle of friends/family).

Please take notice to the detail of each room, different color roses and some are laced in gold (breath taking). I'm not sure how long it took this young man to prepare this surprise for her. .. But I'm very sure she was very pleased.

This is off the charts and very romantic.

Robert is a graduate of Southern University (Q-dog) and is now an accountant with Home Depot at their corporate office in Atlanta. My understanding is that he financially footed the bill for this weekend himself. I was told that he moved in with his sister for approx. 6mos and saved the money to pay for the engagement ring and all of the bells and whistles for this very special evening.

A radio station in ATL was playing the song in the slide show and described what he had done and some men called in saying they had to step their game up. It actually touched a few of them because they admitted they didn't respect women on the level that he respects her.

Make sure you have speakers because the song he chose is beautiful as well.

    ENJOY!

  40. I saw this in an email chain that was going around about a year ago.

Definitely the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. But, the thing that stood out to me most was the fact that, in each room, after reading the personal notes to his future bride, the circle prayed over the couple.

That was the icing on the cake for me.

  41. I know...I was boo-hooing right along with the bride to be!

  42. I know, right. It's hard to walk to the bathroom with puffy, red eyes. Everybody and their brother wants to be in the hall...LOL!
