I was having a convo with some co-worker/friends, some white, some black & 1 is a combination of the 2. I don't even remember how we got on the subject but the white girls asked of we (black women) shaved our legs. I was the only one to answer "no". The other black women answered "sometimes" and our mulatto sister answered "yes". The look of amazement when I answered no was kind of shocking to me.
However, after they looked at my legs, they saw why I don't. My skin is dark & the hair on my legs is as fine as a frog hair. As long as my legs are lotioned or oiled up, I'm good to go.
The white chicks followed up by stating they have to shave their legs like every 2 days or so.
I do know 1 or 2 Sasquatches (very hairy-legged women) who could benefit from a good, old-fashioned blow torch! *lol* I guess I'll consider myself lucky.
PS I do have to hit the armpits once or twice a week but other than that, I'm cool.
PSS Fellas, how do you feel about hairy-legged women?
I believe the last time I shaved my legs I only had one child...It never grew back.

During the summer months, I keep mine shaved. I like the way my skins glows and shines after a nice smooth shave. My hair on my legs is fine, but I just don't like feeling of the hair. During the fall-winter, I shave it occassionally because I don't like the hair poking through my stockings.

I've shaved my legs only once in my entire life but I do shave under my arm and other places as needed and thats about once a month.

ReplyDeleteI get about 3 hairs a year on each leg, so no I dont shave my legs. Never did have hairy legs. I think skin color also dictates necessity. Hairy legs are far more apparent on a lighter skinned woman than a darker one. However, I noticed that a lot os sistas over 40 dont really shave their legs, even when the hair is really long and obvious. Aint my legs so I dont care much. If her partner is cool with it, so be it.
ReplyDeleteAs far as other areas, thats a very western beauty standard--for women to be hairless. It relates to their "softness" and soft=feminine. I dont buy into or support that shit. I do shave, but for my own sanitary reasons (i have some germophobe tendencies). But if men get so high strung about women shaving their pits, they should shave their own, cuz that shit is equally as nasty.
Since I'm not a WHULLY BULLY, I don't have to shave that often. HOWEVER- I do shave every now and then so that it doesn't get out of hand.

But during the summer I shave the leggers every week... no skirts... but I loves to wear my shorts and im what they call yella...not high yella... but yella... lol And I dont like seeing the little hairs...

ReplyDeleteI only shave / use a depilatory on my legs when I know I will be wearing dresses for an extended period of time, otherwise I keep them hairy. I do shave my underarms and va-jay-jay twice a week. My legs aren't extremely hairy and it doesn't bother me or the people I date so I just leave well enough alone. I Loooove a hairy chest on a man just as long as it's neat and trimmed. I'm not fond of taco meat either. I find hair on a man so sexy and masculine. I don't like shaved pubes, chins, pits or chests on a man. All they have to do is keep it neat and trimmed but not completely gone...yuck!

ReplyDeleteI shave the pits and legs every other day. The leg thing is an OCD thing, I simply cannot stand for hair on my legs to rub up against the sheets or my clothes. It is like nails on a chalkboard for me.
ReplyDeleteI have shaved my legs occasionally in the past, but I don't really have to so now I don't. Like Monni, if I am lotioned up, you can't tell anyway. I don't have a lot of hair on my legs or on the pooch. Actually, everysince I turned 21, its started thinning out on its own. That's just weird but at least its convenient. I don't have a jungle bush to deal with. *whew* I would like to try a brazillian, but I really think if I do that, it won't grow back at all.

I shave my legs in the summer probably once a week. I do not have a lot of hair, but once it's noticeable I have to take it off. I wish I had never shaved in the first place! I only did so because of a conversation similar to yours Mo where people made me feel like something was wrong with me because I didn't. Of course I was much younger and didn't know any better. I share under my arms when needed which is at least once a week. I do not shave downstairs; I keep it neatly trimmed. But I've been thinking about doing that lately for some reason.
