My "Baby" is Growing Up

Rating:★★★★
Category:Other
My son, sometimes referred to as "the boy", lives in Jefferson City, MO so I'm not there to "mother" him as before.

I knew about two (2) ER visits he had and was honestly expecting to receive the 2 bills ($100 each) for his co-pays. I was reviewing my medical plan EOB (explanation of benefits) and noticed the claims for him. I also noticed that his co-pays were PAID. I don't think you heard me. His co-pays were PAID! *twirl & faint*

I called & left him a message asking if he did in fact pay his co-pay. He texted *eyeroll* me with: "i did pay it Ma cuz i need to save my favors for bigger stuff".

Now this is the same boy who has given me the blues for the last several years. I kinda cut him off, but I really didn't. I did make it clear that I was no longer gonna take care of him as before. However, I did keep him covered insurance wise.

My "baby" is growing up....sniff-sniff & hallelujah!

  6. You know I had this child waaaaaaaaay to young (16 & Pregnant blog coming soo), but I did the best I could...or at least I think I did.

We have butted heads more often than not. Like most only children, he's independent and extremely hard-headed & is gonna do things his way, despite what I say. After many tears & much more prayer, I decided he must live & learn and as much as it hurts, I have to let him fall sometimes.

Surprisingly enough, when I do get the calls/text, they start with, "Ma, I try not to ask you for much, but....."

He was arrested once on traffic warrants & I let him sit in the county jail one weekend. Knowing what I know about the penal system, I didn't want to leave him there, but I also didn't want to set a precendent of bailing him out everytime he got into trouble. I prayed that nothing would happen to him & I let him stay there.

His know-it-all ass stills get tickets on occassion, but I hear he works overtime to pay them so they don't become warrants. I guess he did learn that lesson.

  7. Thats great..its so exciting and emotional for the babies to grow up but it is such an overwhelming feeling when you realize that it is definitely a good thing.

I am so excited yet scared to death of when my boys become men lol

  8. Imagine my shock & awe that this child of mine came out of his pockets with $200 for his own medical care!

While I'm glad he paid it, I bet he didn't know he could've said, "Bill my mama." *LOL*

Even when I was taking him to the ER, I always paid my co-pays upfront. I guess he remembered that & thought that's the way it works.

  10. WoW...that should make you really proud! LOL cause my two youngest sons now 23 & 22 are in the same boat. I kindly let them know that I wasn't footin the bills for their car ins., cell phones, gas and jordan shoes....that was about 1 yr ago...so, now my cash flow has been curved. Oh, they sometimes ask for little things...if I have the money they get it, but OH I be askin for it back when their paydays roll around! When my oldest son moved out and finally cleaned his closet, gurl...I had a headache for a week...for real. That boy had 22 ... yes 22 Michael Jordan shoe boxes....most of them at $150 to $200 a pair! Oh well, the things we do for our children.

*pat yourself on the back*....he is growing in the right direction!

  18. I think that's what he was thinking, so when he does call begging, I can't say, "Boy I had to shell out $200 for your ER visits!" LOL

  20. I spoke too soon! *LOL*

    Today's phone call:

Son: Ma, I broke my glasses & need $50 to get them fixed.
Me: Call me when you get there & I'll give them my credit card #.

A mother's work in never done. I certainly can't let the boy run around blind. :o)
