Sistas! Prove the white folks wrong & head to the water! *LOL*

This is my hair in it's natural state.  I actually prefer & wear it straight most times, but it doesn't keep me away from the water.

I copied the blog below for my sisters who shy away from the water because of their hair.

Healthy Hair at the Beach!

Long gone are the days when we had to fear the pool or the ocean. You can swim, enjoy the summer and have a neat hair do' in the morning. Here are five easy tips for a happy day at the beach!

1. Before heading out, apply a dime size amount of leave-in conditioner (preferably ones with sunscreen built in) to your hair in small sections. A liquid leave-in conditioner in a spray bottle might be the easiest to apply.

2. Try and keep your hair up and under a hat or scarf for as long as possible. This will help protect your hair and scalp from the sun.

3. Go for a swim!

4. If possible, at least try to rinse out the chlorine or sea water. If not possible, cover hair with hat or scarf until your return home. Then, wash and condition with a super moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. If you can leave the conditioner on for 20 minutes, that would be great!

5. Apply a moisturizer. Braid hair in small, uniform sections and let air dry overnight. In the morning, undo braids, separate curls for a nice textured look! Here is a picture of what my hair looks like the next morning.

Hope this help! For more tips and techniques, join me at www.healthytextures.com and on my social network at www.healthytextures.ning.com.

  3. I haven't been to a pool in so long. Not because of the water and my hair but because of my fear of being caught dead in a swimsuit!

    Just kidding...

    Thanks for the tips!

  4. I am getting my daughters hair geared up for camp. She is going to be swimming in a chlorinated pool twice a day for 4 weeks. Last year her hair got really dry. This time I am going to get the ends trimmed and condition it daily. I wish I could put it in braids, but I detest fuzzy braids and all that swimming will make her hair fuzz up in a second.

  8. I am not afraid of the water either. You have a nice wavy texture. Mine will kind of curl/spiral up. Give me some mousse and I am good to go.

  23. I can only get in the water if that's the ONLY thing I'm going to do for the day because these locs are very absorbent lol. It takes forever for my hair to dry.

  24. I bet! Shoot, it takes mine 2 days to air dry! I can't imagine how long yours takes.

  25. That's why I'm rocking the cornrows so I can swim with no muss, no fuss.

If I were to take to the water in my natural state, I'd come out with a tight short little afro. And it takes a half day to wash, dry, comb and condition it! Last summer though, I wore my hair in two strand twists and did the leave in conditioner thing so it was easier to comb out and style for the next day.

  26. I've never been scared of the water as I love to swim...9 times out of 10 i'm rocking weave (sewn in) anyway so I just jump right on in...lol. In the summer, I mostly wear wet n wavy weave so when it gets wet, it just curls up. I wash in between my cornrows with a toothbrush then blowdry in between my tracks to make sure my own hair is dry and let the weave hair air dry.

  27. Air drying is in no way shape of form an option for me lol. I can dry my hair for an hour (F you Kim and DeShanna, that's a pre-emptive F You to the both o'yous) and it still won't be completely dry, it takes a day or so to completely dry even AFTER the drying lol

  28. If my hair gets wet it gets frizzy and shrinks up
...and air dry...Lawd no I would look like Celie from the Color Purple by the head lol
