...and let me tell you why.
I had been in the house from about noon on Thursday until Monday morning. I even called in Friday & that was the company holiday party (since they cancelled Christmas *eyeroll*). I'm almost always a co-hostess (insert another *eyeroll*) but this year I wasn't feeling it. Two tears in a bucket, muthafuck it.
Anywho, we got all these freaking weather reports...some true...some not so true. Monday morning rolls around & I look outside to see what's happening in the streets. Kids & folks walking & waiting on bus stops. Neighbors warming up cars, etc. I get dressed & head out.
I step outside before selecting my outerwear, like I always do. Not bad...a lil nippy but not bad as they said.
I grabbed my coat, purse & lunch and proceed to leave. My foot touches the 1st step & down the fuck I went. Damn! I bounced down 3 steps like a damn basketball.
I gather my footing & go inside. My elbow was hurting like a mofo. My pants were wet, so I called my manager to let her know what happened and that I would be late (well, later than usual).
I sprinkle some of that ice melt stuff outside & go inside to change clothes. By the time I came back out, that tricky ass ice was gone.
I proceeded to defrost my car & see my neighbor coming around the corner with her baby (in a pumpkin seat). In the blink of an eye, she goes down!! The pumpkin seat hits the ground! I rushed (ok, ok...swiftly limped) my newly crippled ass over to help. I check the baby & she was still asleep. I help my neighbor up & watch her until she makes it inside her home.
I limp on into the office only to see 3-4 more newly crippled folks, thanks to Mother Nature.
I'm really feeling the aftershock today & have bruises on my back, elbow and ass to prove it.
Remind me why I haven't left the Midwest?
PS Remember the old Spencer Catalogs (the image)?
You mean you fell and I didn't get to witness it? Damn!
ReplyDeleteouch! glad you're cool.
ReplyDeleteGirl, you sure do know how to tell a story! I'm sorry, but after I read you were ok I had to laugh at your fall! =) But my heart dropped when I read about the baby. I'm glad everybody's ok. In the winter, I almost always wear rubber bottom shoes for this exact same reason. Ice likes to hide!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you and the baby was ok, Big Girl!
ReplyDeleteCTFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUu
ReplyDeleteNow that I've got most of that out...lemme tell you what happened to ME last night...Ahem...
ReplyDeleteI come home early b/c of the threat of ICE, right? I stop at the grocery store, anticipating I'll be iced in. I come home and got a phone call while turning the corner on my block. So you know me, I'm a multi-tasker...ahem...I step out the truck, get some of the groceries out the back and proceed to the porch. WHYYYY was there a small sheet of ice on the edge of the porch. In the middle of my response to my caller, I slid to the side...went down...phone faced down on the porch...*In the voice of Rafael De La Ghetto (fresh prince)* GROCERIES! to the left of me....GROCERIES!! to the right of me...can you dig it?!
Dang and all we got it nice 70+ degree weather.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't witness it but ER'BODY on the s/e corner did.....smh then lol
ReplyDeleteI had my Lugz Boots on.....:o(
ReplyDeleteTalk about Kodak moment!! Damn....smh then lol!!
ReplyDeleteMike, don't make me hate you!! LMAO
ReplyDeleteI was watching on the news how the midwest is covered in ice and people without power and heat. I'm glad it's not that bad where you are Mo. That's no joke to be iced in like that. Something is coming to the East pretty soon I heard. Not looking forward to this. Glad you didn't break a bone.
ReplyDeleteMo, I told yall bout my slip and slide incident last week. My hip was killing me for days because in the momentum of trying to keep my ass off the ground I went and pulled something......Poor baby, warm baths and epsom salt and get u some timbs....yeah they are ugly but they have pretty good traction.
ReplyDeleteWell you gonna hate me too because it's been in the 70's here too!!! But see y'all fighting ice, and I'm fighting bugs!!! I had to spray the outside of my apartment because I had an ant swarm!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry you fell, and hope your bruises heal. That ice is no joke!!!
We live in MO as well, but luckily we didn't hit THIS TIME with that CRAZY ice! The weather lately has been wet...but not really too cold. We are heading SOUTH for our holiday vacation and then even FURTHER South for our Honeymoon (MEXICO here we come!!) I will think of you all while laying on the beach in Cozumel! Last year when the ice hit, we were in the process of moving from one place to another...and we lost power in BOTH houses for like a day! It was COLD!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the midwest because I love having ALL season. Good and bad...it's still HOME!!!
Sorry, I'd have paid money to see that one! Just curious...was your creepy neighbor on the porch watching? LOL
ReplyDeleteAwwww, sis! I'm sorry to hear that. It was in the 80s here the past few days.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably why I'm still here. I've been a few places, but none ever felt like home.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'm too old for that.
ReplyDelete*straight face to Dee...naw, it WAS hilarious though* No their crazy asses weren't watching...LOL It was like 11pm. Let's just consider that me initiating MYSELF to my house!
ReplyDeleteI'm not gonna laugh at you cuz(but I will say that it's REALLY hard not to lol)
ReplyDeleteDang Mo! I hope you feel better. I didn't even think to laugh since I just fell not too long ago. I feel for you, truly!
ReplyDeleteI changed my background in dedication to me, you & any other unfortunate soul whose ass met/will meet the ice this season. :o)
ReplyDeleteLMAO...What a tribute! It's funny cause that pic you found for your blog resembles your house quite a bit to me!
