It's Friday and in St. Louis that means fried fish & spaghetti everywhere! You heard me right - fish and spaghetti! My son's fav meal.
I hear this is a St. Louis thing. You naysayers can keep ya grits (those are for breakfast and are best paired with bacon & sausage) and the mac & cheese....it doesn't go with fish. *yuck* I tried the mac & cheese combo when I was in Cali with my people and all I can say in never again. Gimme my damn spaghetti with my fried fish, preferably with garlic bread, a salad (missing from my plate this time) & a pickle on the side. Most folks also add onions to this plate, but I hate onions.
What say you?
I have done the Fried Fish and Spaghetti for breakfast....Nothing wrong with that.....Every now and then, I will add shrimps to my spaghetti...My kids like that..
ReplyDeleteumph, umph, umph, I sho'll am huuuuuuuungry! LOLOL
ReplyDeleteBUT, something can be said for fried salmon with grits and eggs.
I actually like salmon patties with grits...
ReplyDeleteI'm from the country. Catfish and Grits baby!
ReplyDeleteI have had these things seperately but never together. As for grits I can't stand the stuff (yea i know it's not about grits but there was some mention so i just threw that in there lol).
ReplyDeleteGroosssss. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'll take the chocolate covered strawberries instead. I dont eat seafood, and if that fish is touching my spaghetti, I am not eating that either. LOL
I gotta try this. Looks good...but I'm really not a spaghetti eater. I can TOLERATE it but it ain't one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget a side of coleslaw and a piece of white bread! Never had my fish & spaghetti with a pickle.
ReplyDeleteThe extent of my seafood with pasta is either shrimp or clams. Never had fried fish and spaghetti before.
ReplyDeleteGuess hanging out in Washington Park rubbed off. Give me fish and spaghetti with some onions and pickles on the side! Wheat bread please!
ReplyDeleteBUT I also learned that them negroes will NOT eat spaghetti unless they fix it themselves or their mama fixes it.
When we have family cookouts, the boy will ask who made it & it he ain't feeling, he ain't eating.
ReplyDeleteYou know the reason behind that right?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's just a St. Louis thing... I used to grow weary of fried fish with either spaghetti or mac n cheese as the lunch offering in my school district - Pittsburgh has a high concentration of Catholics and therefore Fridays were meatless (at least until them crazy folks @ the Vatican changed the rules YET AGAIN)
ReplyDeletePierogies were also a big deal on Fridays - especially from St. Vladimir's.
I dont know how wide spread it is here in Chicago, but I know most of my family and families of friends do have fish fry's on friday... A perfect fish fry meal to me is Catfish with a side of salad... I like to break my fish apart and put it over my salad... No salad dressing though... I've never done the fish and grits thing... I just think some things otta be sacred to breakfast... But with my fish and salad I gotta have a tall glass of red koolaid (cherry for you slow people)... And something for desert... I kinda like spaghetti with my fish sometimes, but I prefer salad...
ReplyDeleteOh... and dont be giving me no dang on bread....
ReplyDeleteYou know I do!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a story behind that..
ReplyDeleteWhy'd I know YOU would be the one to question it?
ReplyDeleteI haven't done fish for BREAKFAST ever, but I can get with the fish and spaghetti combo. I'm also for the MAC- and CHEESE with fish as well though.
ReplyDeleteListen... I didnt say the B word to you once yesterday... dont make me get back on it... lmaooooo
ReplyDeleteAnd because inquiring minds wanna know... aka... nosey people like me... lol
Or maybe you knew, because you got special powers to read minds or something... Tell me what Im thinking right now... lol
Wait... were we talking about fish and sketti for breakfast? Naw thats too early for me... I needs my captain crunch in the morning....
ReplyDeletewhat word ?
ReplyDeletelmaoooooooooooooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteyou do know that if you look at that in a certain way it almost looks like something... something that I wont say out loud... but it does... lol
LOLLLLLLLLL I did not want to say anything till someone else said something but it does look like something, doesn;t it ? LOL
ReplyDeleteYou not getting me in trouble today for rerouting this blog... So get ya ass back on topic with the fish and sketti...lol
ReplyDeleteWhatever I'm saying it
ReplyDeletelooks like vajayjay lips!!!!
ROFL!
Can't say I've had fried fish and spaghetti together, but I like them both and would eat them both if offered. I guess it's kinda like Chicken and Waffles, hunh? It makes regional/geographic sense...
ReplyDeleteNow "I" have never had chicken and waffles! I keep hearing how GOOD it is though.
ReplyDeleteI dont like waffles... so thats a no no for me...
ReplyDeleteThey eat a lot of fish and spaghetti here also. I don't eat a lot of fish so I usually have spaghetti with meat in it alone. But I have one question...why the pickle?
ReplyDeleteKIM, YOU NEED A PICKLE TO STICK IN THE BUTTER. LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeletegag...
ReplyDeleteI haven't & doubt I could tolerate a fried fish plate as my a.m. meal.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right. I've never had chicken & waffles and thought it was the craziest thing when I 1st heard mention of it.
ReplyDeleteChild that's just like asking why the sun shines. LOL It just works.
ReplyDeleteIm gone try it and see if you right... But I gotta tell ya, Im not seeing it right in my head...lol
ReplyDeleteTake a bite of fish followed by a bite of pickle and/or onion.
ReplyDeleteMy mom made catfish and a nice salad yesterday... no spaghetti... And I completely forgot to try a pickle with it... maybe next time... But it still aint sounding good... but Im gone trust ya... lol
ReplyDeleteFish and spaghetti is cool but I prefer mac & cheese! =)
ReplyDeleteFish and garlic bread? Nawl...
Spaghetti, meatballs and garlic bread? Much better!
I've never had it... I will try it. I can get down with the mac and cheese.. . Give me some spaghetti, texas toast and a salad... yummeee
